Old News

Monday, 26. February 2001:

* I try to keep the CVS-repository up to date. To get a snapshot follow the instructions and check out "perl-jupiter". I do not garuantee that a snapshot from CVS will run properly.
* "application/pgp-signature" is now handled correctly. :-)
* I am separating the code parts into different modules to keep the overview.
* Since the windowframe is themeable with the window-manager and the menu etc. is themeable with Gtk, there remain only the unchangeable icons. But I'm working on it. :)

Friday, 23. February 2001:

* Working on SMTP (obscure errors) and proper mime-handling

Wednesday, 21. February 2001:

* Functions theory (Funktionentheorie) is done. :)
* I switched from Mail::Folder to Mail::Cclient. I tried C-client once with C, but I couldn't persuade it to do what it was supposed to. :-/ But the Perl modul of that library is much faster than Mail::Folder. So the "hang"-problems when deleting messages are history.
* I (finally :) have added a toolbar. Much more comfortable now! :-)
* I don't want to add a large tree on the left as often seen in other MUAs, because this tree often wastes place. On the other hand, the radio buttons are to inflexible when adding new folders for, say, a new mailinglist. So, I decided to add a menu for the different folders. Nice goodie: you can now jump directly to a folder using keyboard accelerators. :-)
* Folder handling is now more or less standard: mbox-files in $HOME/mail. Inbox is /var/spool/mail/$USER. For POP3-Accounts I'll have to find another solution.
* You can now add new folders simply by creating them. For sorting I suggest you use tools, who know what they do, e.g. procmail.
* I updated the screenshot to reflect the new state of Jupiter.
* A lot of work is done! :) I think we can switch to alpha-state.

Monday, 12. February 2001:

* Signing of a message with GnuPG works now.

Sunday, 05. February 2001:

* Well, I've changed the mailbox-syncing. The changes (deleting, ..) are buffered until you leave Gnupiter or ask for syncing manually via menu. The probability, that this is not crash-safe, tends to one, I'm afraid. I'll have to find another solution for the "hanging"-problem.

Sunday, 28. January 2001:

* I modified the smart-linebreaking-algorithm in order to try to guess if the mail contains parts of log-file or something similar and does not break those lines.

Saturday, 20. January 2001:

* It's time to go pre-alpha (again :-/). I hope, that this time there are no problems with the RAM. Gnupiter still lacks a toolbar. I have to fix it soon.. ;-)

Wednesday, 10. January 2001:

* I decided to add a new page: Features. There you'll find the description of some features, which -- well surely exist in other programs, too -- are very usefull, in my eyes. But find out yourself! :-)

Sunday, 07. January 2001:

* Neues Jahrtausend, neues Glück. There's a new nifty Feature available: Break lines after an user-specified amount of characters without loosing answer quotation!. Look on the "Screenshots"-page for an example!

Sunday, 31. December 2000:

* Happy new year: Account-management (adding, editing, deleting, storing, ....) is complete. I am using "GDBM_File" to keep the account data persistent. Reading Mails is in work.
* I added three levels of text-highlighting: Up to three levels of quoted answers are displayed in different different colours (more, are in most of the cases, unnecessary and are therefore coloured in the colour of level 3 only) .
* POP3 is working. :-)
* I 'll try to keep the Screenshots-Section up-to-date (constructive criticism is still apreciated) and I 'll upload the perl source in the CVS ASAP.

Saturday, 23. December 2000:

* Sorry, but I'm migrating to Perl due to better Moduls concerning Messagebase- and Networkaccess. I could'nt solve the memory problems. Maybe I'm to stupid. I hope, I find some time " zwische de Johre ". Please be patient. Thanks.

Thursday, 09 November 2000:

* Verification of GPG-Signatures now possible. Working En-/Decrypting.
* Moves mails from localmailbox to account-specific mailbox in unix format
* Mail-deletion still doesn't work. Some parse problems of the mailboxformat aren't fixed, yet.

Wednesday, 01 November 2000:

* Major Feature: multiple Accounts now available!
* Focus now on configuration and mailbox-writing.
* Accounts can now be saved! :-) Support for .signature-file, but only one signature at a time. No shuffling, yet.
* Via-Feature implemented. But standard conformance must be checked.
* Added a screenshot, so you can see, which design, I'm thinking about.
Constructive criticism is appreciated.

Sunday, 29 October 2000:

* Ok. Signing a message works now fine. GPG-Integration starts becoming usable
* Fixed some bugs in Parser for the local mailbox.
* Replying to a message now possible.

Saturday, 28 October 2000:

* I think that it is time to release some preprepre-alpha version in the near future. Sending messages works fine (except CC). I am trying to get the mailbox up, but I did not find some useable libraries, concerning this. Well, it becomes interesting.

Friday, 27 October 2000:

Sorry, for this delay, but this week the lectures at the University started. So this week was somewhat chaotic. But nevertheless there are some changes in Gnupiter!
* SMTP works. :-)
* You can read your local mailbox (e.g. /var/spool/mail/<your username here>)
This is still buggy!
* Started implementing converter Latin1 <-> Latin1/Quoted Printable.

Sunday, 22 October 2000:

* SMTP changed again. Discarded libgnet, now using only libc.

Saturday, 21 October 2000:

* SMTP usable. UPDATE: NOT usable. :-/

Friday, 20 October 2000:

* SMTP now in a seperate file.
* Started to implement proper SMTP-Support.
* Added Toolbar to Main application and SendMailWidget.
* Added CC support (buggy).

Tuesday, 17 October 2000:

* First uploads to the Website.
* First uploads to the CVS-Tree.
